CDC Guidelines

In accordance with updated CDC guidelines, when you have a respiratory virus such as flu, COVID-19, or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) with symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache among others:

Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) until both are true for at least 24 hours:

  • Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
  • You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

When you go back to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days, such as

  • Opening car windows, increased hand hygiene, wearing masks and physical distancing

Keep in mind that you are less likely to be contagious when you are feeling better, but may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick.

Remember there is antiviral treatment available for influenza and Covid-19 for those that may require it.

Share your results

Any student who tests positive for a respiratory illness outside of the Student Health Center (SHC) is asked to share test results with the SHC. This can be done through the student’s MyChart account or by messaging healthsv@kzoo.edu. This ensures that students receive ongoing support and information. Please note that the Student Health Center will not publicly disclose names or any personally identifiable information about individuals who report.
